Father’s Day 2021

Hot gravy smeared over fresh biscuits, baked eggs, breakfast potatoes, lemony kale salad + crisp fruit slices. Plates full, table full. It was a delight hosting breakfast in our new garden area with my husband and kids, my Dad, my sister and her husband. Together for Father’s Day. What a treat!

I’m so grateful for my amazing husband, he’s such a good Dad to our children! I hope he felt celebrated on Father’s Day.

We spent the better part of the morning into lunchtime grazing and playing in the yard, pruning plants, moving banana trees + ti leaf trees to new locations in our yard, and then we decided it was time for a cool swim in the stream! (As an aside, Iao Valley is one of my favorite places in the whole world. I’d go there as a kid with my Dad and swim in the old Iao Valley public pool! Jumping into that pool took my breath away every single time. It felt colder than Iao stream!)

It was wonderful hiking together as a family through the trees and along the rocks. We found the perfect spot with a giant rock that slopes at just the right angle to create a slippery slide. Nature is marvelous. On our way back to our car, we ran into my dear Aunty Mary and Uncle Jess. It’s so sweet living back on Maui and running into relatives out and about. Getting to visit and reconnect.

Here are a few pics from our Father’s Day and photos of the oreo cheesecake we made a few days prior for a meal with my cousins which we finally finished on Father’s Day I think. Or had we run out already? So sad.

How was your Father’s Day? And have you been to Iao Valley? If not, it’s time. The water might just take your breath away…
