Carmel, California

What an incredible blessing this past week has been! Ken’s mom and her dear friend watched all three of our kids so we could hop on a plan to Northern California and then drive to my sister’s wedding in San Luis Obispo. I praise God for all the helpers who’ve made it possible for Ken and I to go on dates throughout the years, last year’s first weeklong solo getaway (just Ken and me!) to Toronto, Canada, and now this year’s trip to California. Each time, Ken and I get to travel alone, I’m filled with varying amounts of anxiety, fear, excitement, wonder, and joy. It’s all the things. I am so grateful for how the Lord showed up for us in this – and for Grandma’s patience and care in loving on our kids!!

Two of our three kids came down with horrible colds then caught strep throat right before Ken and I flew to California. Juggling antibiotics and medications was so very stressful (not to mention all the mom guilt I felt in leaving) and yet, this trip can be summed up in a few choice phrases: “We played like kids.” “Second Honeymoon.” “So much fun I could cry!” I’m still beaming, as I think about all the dreamy scenery Ken and I were privy to on our leisurely walks along the beach and throughout our trip. We held hands driving and on dates (every meal was a date). We got to slowly chew our food and taste all the flavours – we weren’t eating on the run or standing up while eating, like we do at home. Having a home full of kids is wild and wonderful and life-giving! Being able to play and rest like them, is likewise a special gift.

I wanted to share a few photos from our trip. What a blessing!! Thank you Jesus!!
